NODIS DATA SERVICES

The Northern Ohio Data and Information Service (NODIS) provides the public with convenient access to detailed census data and other statistical information from a variety of sources. Since its founding in 1982 at Cleveland State University's Levin College of Urban Affairs, NODIS has assisted government officials of large and small municipalities, real estate developers, hospital administrators, educators, students, and many others.

NODIS is one of three regional data centers in Ohio designated by the U.S. Bureau of the Census and the State of Ohio. NODIS maintains a tape library of census and other public datasets for Ohio and the rest of the nation. Printed materials are available for use in our office. Major funding for NODIS comes from the Urban University Program supported by the Ohio General Assembly and the Ohio Board of Regents.

NODIS is also a leader in the use of information technology, particularly geographic information systems (GIS), and it provides special data analysis, mapping and programming services. Standard data reports include tract profiles, EEO occupation reports for anywhere in the nation, and radius search profiles. NODIS staff also field daily requests for information by phone from citizens, students, and professionals. Since its founding, NODIS has served thousands of individuals and agencies and has been involved in a number of projects, such as national forums on data dissemination and urban information systems. NODIS has also provided community leadership in preparing for the 1990 Census.

CENSUS OF POPULATION AND HOUSING
Taken every ten years, the Census of Population and Housing includes information collected about persons, households, and housing units. Some information is collected from every enumerated household, while other information is collected from a sample of households and used to estimate characteristics of the entire population.

NODIS maintains complete 1980 and 1990 census data for Ohio and other states. In addition, data for 1970 and earlier censuses are available in considerable detail for the Cleveland region.
